E15 and Higher Blends

Approved in 9 out of 10 Cars Today

Ethanol is the lowest cost, highest octane fuel additive available to refiners and gasoline marketers today. Consumers will benefit from more competition and greater savings as E15 use expands. EPA has approved the use of E15 gas for 9 out of 10 cars on the road today. Nearly all automakers explicitly approve and provide full warranty coverage for E15 use.

On May 31, 2019, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, at the direction of then President Trump, issued a final rule allowing retailers to sell E15 gas year-round in all parts of the country.  This action removed an unnecessary regulatory barrier to E15 commercialization and provided American drivers with options at the pump and access to environmentally-friendly fuels.  Indeed, as a result of EPA’s action, E15 sales have grown significantly.

Today, E15 stations number over 2,000 and E15 sales now outpace E85 sales across the country.  The U.S. Department of Agriculture has provided an aggressive infrastructure incentive program to encourage additional fuel marketers to adopt E15.  As a result, the Renewable Fuels Association is extremely confident E15 sales will grow exponentially in the future.
